PAYTM, a widely known application that is used by millions of users in India. However, this application is used by fraudsters to perform the fraud.

Types of Paytm Fraud:

  1. QR Code Fraud: Person sends the QR code and you need were befooled to send money to other account instead of receiving it.
  2. FasTAG Fraud
  3. Calling Fraud
  4. Debit Card Fraud and counting.

Coming to topic:

  1. cybercell@paytm.com: Send the mail here immediately. If attacker has not withdrawn the same, you will get money back.
  2. If your money is deducted fraudulently and the fraudster has withdrawn the same, just be calm and accept that things are going to be difficult now! Chances of getting money back is very delayed.

If it is bank’s fault, you will get refund. If it happened due to your fault (entering UPI pin for collect request), it is difficult to get money back!

  1. If fraud person is of same state as that of the victim, expect investigation to be faster.
  2. Take Print out of following things and go to cyber police station:
  • Bank statement — If you have done UPI transaction, you will see ISFC code there which shows where your money went. Also using transaction ID, you can track fraudster.
  • Transaction screenshot.

4. Go to https://cybercrime.gov.in/ and report the incident.

What next?

Go Physical. Go Cash !

  1. Don’t enable any digital channel (Netbanking, UPI, Debit card etc) on your main account which has all your money.
  2. Use a separate bank account (Ex. Payments banks which has zero maintenance charge: Airtel Payments Banks) for digital transactions.
